Hey Reader
Everyone is driven by something.
One thing I've come to realize is that everyone is driven by something different.
When I was younger, I loved watching the rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Every football fan picked a side. Every match felt personal. Every trophy sparked another debate.
Back then, I thought the rivalry was about proving who was better. Now, I think it was about something deeper.
Drive.
Between them, they've won almost everything football has to offer. League titles. Champions Leagues. Ballon d'Ors. World recognition. Records that may stand for generations.
By most people's standards, they've done enough. Yet they kept going.
They still trained. They still competed. They still chased new records. They still wanted more.
Not because they had nothing but because something inside them refused to settle.
And that's when I realized something.
Everyone is driven by something.
For some people, it's building a business that outlives them. For others, it's becoming the best in their profession. Some are driven by the desire to give their children a better life than they had. Others simply want to prove to themselves that they're capable of more.
The destination may be different, but the drive feels the same.
I remember Burna Boy's famous lyric:
"Dangote still dey find money."
People laughed because it sounded funny. But beneath the humour is a powerful truth.
Aliko Dangote has built an empire most people can't even imagine. Yet he continues to invest, expand and build bigger.
Not because he needs to prove anything.
Because people who are driven don't stop simply because they've achieved success.
They stop when they decide they're done.
Unfortunately, ambition is often misunderstood. The moment someone refuses to settle, people begin to question their motives.
"Isn't what you have enough?"
"Why are you always chasing more?"
"You should be satisfied."
But there's a difference between greed and growth.
Greed is wanting what belongs to someone else.
Growth is becoming more than you were yesterday.
Ambition isn't the opposite of contentment.
You can be grateful for where you are while still believing there's another level you're capable of reaching.
Those two ideas can exist together.
And they often do.
The people who accomplish extraordinary things aren't necessarily the most talented.
They're often the ones who simply refuse to stop.
They keep learning after everyone else is comfortable.
They keep building after everyone else celebrates.
They keep showing up after everyone else assumes they've already won.
That's what drive looks like. People may never understand why you keep pushing.
They don't have to.
Your drive was never assigned to them.
It was given to you.
So keep building.
Keep improving.
Keep taking the next step.
Because the people who change their lives—and sometimes the lives of millions of others—are usually the ones who kept moving long after the world believed they had already arrived.
Everyone is driven by something.
The only question that really matters is:
What is driving you?
